Jordan Westburg brought in Sunday’s game-winning run with a ball into the stands. But instead of coming off his bat, it went off his left hand.A 101 mph fastball from Minnesota Twins right-hander Jhoan Duran nailed the Orioles’ rookie infielder with the bases loaded in Sunday’s eighth inning at Camden Yards, bringing in what proved to be the game-winning run in Baltimore’s 2-1 victory. The ball ricocheted off Westburg’s hand and over the protective netting into the seats behind home plate.“Anything for a win,” Westburg with the hand wrapped after his sixth major league game. “My whole goal going into the at-bat was to do anything to get that run across, anything to help the team get a win, and if I got to take a hit-by-pitch, that’s fine.”The pair of runs scored in the decisive inning was double what the Orioles (49-33) managed in their previous 27 offensive frames. With the rally, Baltimore ended its four-game losing strea...

Evacuation alert remains for Kelowna, B.C., residents near Knox Mountain wildfire

KELOWNA — Emergency crews in Kelowna, B.C., say they’re still working to contain a wildfire on Knox Mountain that spurred an evacuation of area residents on Canada Day. A statement from the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre says lighter winds Sunday aided firefighters in keeping the fire from growing, but crews are dealing with hot spots and flare-ups. The centre says residents in the Poplar Point, Knox Mountain, Magic Estates and Clifton areas near the fire will remain on evacuation alert until Tuesday, but are no longer under an evacuation order that was in place Saturday afternoon as crews fought the flames. Deputy fire chief Sandra Follack says people should avoid the area to allow crews to work unimpeded, warning of the potential for another fire to break out. The statement from the centre says people can face fines of up to $500 if they enter an active fire zone. On Canada Day, Kelowna RCMP assisted with an evacuation of more than 400 properties and the statem...
