JUPITER, Fla. - The St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up spring training Monday with baseball's best preseason record and a lineup that could look very similar to one used on Opening Day. The Cardinals ended Grapefruit League play with an 8-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, finalizing their 2023 spring training record at 17-7-5. That's good for a .708 winning percentage, which will stand as baseball's best by the time all spring games end Tuesday. RELATED - How you MIGHT be able to watch St. Louis Cardinals games for free this year While it's hard to put too much stock into spring training records and stats, the best spring record is a nice accomplishment, given the Cardinals had nine big-league players miss extended time due to the World Baseball Classic. That bunch included many marquee players like Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Tommy Edman. The Cardinals who stuck around camp got extended looks, so the spring surge, at the very least, is a testament of depth within the org...TikTok banned on Aurora city devices after City Council approves resolution

Using or downloading TikTok on city devices or personal devices using the city network will no longer be allowed in Aurora. The City Council approved a resolution Monday night that bans the popular video-sharing social media app that was the target of a contentious U.S. congressional hearing just days earlier. Concerns about data sharing practices and security threats in connection with the Chinese government are among those that have led to calls for the app to be banned in the United States. The app is not allowed on U.S. government devices and the U.S. Justice Department and FBI have launched investigations into the company’s practices. Other American jurisdictions and governments in other countries have banned or regulated the app’s use.Aurora Councilman Dustin Zvonek brought forward the city resolution because of TikTok’s security threat for data and priv...Migrants lit mattresses on fire at Northern Mexico detention center where 39 died, president says

Though psychedelic drugs often have hallucinogenic properties, not everyone who trips on psychedelics has frightening or enlightening “visuals” to tell — and not everyone will feel as though they’re miraculously handed a “greater” purpose in life, either. These may be the commonly-told effects of psychedelic drugs, but it doesn’t seem like it’s always the case for everyone. Here are questions you might find yourself asking when it comes to psychedelics:Which drugs can give me a psychedelic high?Hallucinogens have been around since ancient times. The earliest recorded psychedelic use was discovered in a cave in Algeria; the cave had a mural of what experts call the “mushroom man” or the “mushroom shaman” — a painting of a bee-headed man with several mushrooms sprouting out of his body. This mural is believed to be 7,000 to 9,000 years old. There are also other discoveries — where evidence of psychedelic drugs was used — in other caves and ston...Wendy Marcus Pronounced Dead in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 [Humboldt County, CA]

As Women’s History Month nears closure, we reiterate our commitment to highlight the contributions of women year round in all creative industries (and beyond) at LA Weekly. We are still appreciative of the attention we get and give in March, though. Our sister publication The Village Voice, published this wonderful piece about the impactful work of women in the early eras of television. Enjoy.– Lina Lecaro (Culture & Entertainment Editor) “If television didn’t already exist, women would have had to invent it.” As I remember it, these words were spoken by the Village Voice’s own Andrew Sarris, in a Columbia University classroom, circa 2007.
