NEW DELHI (AP) — No-frills Indian air carrier Go First filed for bankruptcy and suspended its flights for three days starting Wednesday, causing hardships for thousands of fliers.A statement on the carrier’s website on Tuesday said the cancellations were caused by operational reasons. “A full refund will be issued to the original mode of payment shortly,” the statement said.In a message to employees on Tuesday, airline chief Kaushik Khona said Pratt & Whitney had failed to supply it with replacements for faulty aircraft engines, the Press Trust of India news agency said. Nearly half of college dropouts would 'very likely' reenroll if given student debt relief, poll finds

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:30 GMT

(The Hill) - Forty-seven percent of people who did not finish their postsecondary degree say they would “very likely” go back to school if they got some student debt relief. The State of Higher Education 2023 report released early Wednesday morning by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation found 31 percent of all students who left school with debt would “somewhat likely” go back, while 22 percent say they are “not very likely” or “not likely at all” to return to higher education. The poll comes as student borrowers are set to find out soon if they will receive the up to $20,000 in student loan forgiveness President Biden proposed last year. Biden's plan could receive a ruling any day now from the conservative-leaning Supreme Court. On average, students in the survey who did not finish their degree said they would need 70 percent of their loans forgiven in order to reenroll in school. For a person to get 70 percent of their student debts forgiven under Biden’s plan, they woul...

Small Bites Review: Yes, Tacos Tacos Tacos — but also salsas, salsas, salsas

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:30 GMT

You can probably guess what’s on the menu at Tacos Tacos Tacos. And the tacos at the new spot on West 7th Street are indeed good — but the salsas really steal the show. Both the traditional Mexican street food-style tacos and the space they’re served in are pared down to the essentials, with little embellishments here and there. Six tacos: pork al pastor, skirt steak, slow-simmered beef suadero, chorizo sausage, beef tongue and nopales, plus a few specialty tacos and other street-food classics like torta sandwiches. After you order up front, grab your tacos at the back counter — under the neon-style “You Sexy Taco” sign, an unexpected piece of millennial-aesthetic decor — and sit either bar-style along the large front windows or at one of a couple wooden tables. And for real, don’t miss the salsas. On a recent afternoon, they were in nondescript squeeze bottles in a small metal pan by the pick-up counter, so you might need to ask for a run-through. The mild salsa verde has plenty...

Prost! Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter to reopen this month

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:30 GMT

The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter restaurant will reopen later this month with the same name, the same decor, the same hours, the same menu and the same 12 taps that serve only German beer. The only thing new is owner Jimmy Martin, who in April bought the German restaurant in Grant from longtime owner Kim Quade. The restaurant was founded in 1966 by Bavarian native Karl Schoene and his wife, Elizabeth; Quade was previously married to Carl Schoene Jr., who died in 2003. The restaurant closed in December 2021.“It’s an honor to have been chosen as the next steward of the Gasthaus,” said Martin, 42, of Lake Elmo. “I intend for it to operate the same as it always has been. It’s important that it remains the same for the community.”Recipes that were on the Gasthaus menu for 50 years will be back, including sauerbraten and schnitzel (10 kinds), schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), and a herring sampler that features pickled herring, mustard herring and herring in apples, onions and seasoning, Martin sai...

98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: My GF Wants A VERY Expensive Engagement Ring; Shouldn't She Pay Half?

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma is about engagements and rings. Here's the email. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I want to propose to my girlfriend on our vacation this summer, but I can't afford the ring she wants. She wants this beautiful $3,000 ring. She has shown me this picture for months now. I have been saving, but with our vacation, there is no way I can pay for it. I think if this is the ring she wants, then she needs to pay half on it. She will be the one wearing it, not me. If I have to pay for the whole thing, then I should be picking it out and getting her what I want. Would it be wrong to ask her to pay half for her engagement ring, since she wants an expensive ring? ThanksRayWell, I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned. I like the idea of the person asking picking out and giving the ring. And I don't love the idea of the person getting the ring putting a requirement on it. So I th...

Ask Amy: Siblings Zoom away from family meetings

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:30 GMT

Dear Amy: I’m the youngest of three siblings. My two brothers live a couple of states away from our parents, who are in their 80s. I live the farthest away, on the opposite coast. At the beginning of the pandemic, like most families, we connected on Zoom. There were tech hurdles for my parents, but they navigated them as best they could.A couple of times we played games, had virtual parties, or watched funny cartoon clips, but the relatively boring meetings where we exchange small talk seem to be the most popular. For my rapidly aging parents, I think these one-hour monthly meetings are a lifeline. It’s like magic to them to see us all on their laptop. However, also like most families, the desire to continue this has diminished, especially as people are doing more things in person. But we still live very far apart, and I’m increasingly frustrated and sad that they’re unable or unwilling to show up.I’m aware that our parents will not be around forever, and I...

Metro Denver’s peak home selling season not in bloom

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:30 GMT

Like waters rushing down from the melting snow in the mountains, new home listings usually pour into the metro Denver market around this time of year. But things are not flowing along like they normally do and the blockage appears to be on the side of sellers.“Traditionally, in the spring selling season, the market sees an increase in both active listings at month-end as well as new listings. The sluggish movement in these categories, however, leaves a lot to be desired,” said Libby Levinson-Katz, in comments included with the latest monthly update from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors. There were 4,758 new listings for single-family homes and condos last month, a 6.7% drop from March and a 31% decline from a year earlier. And while the inventory of homes and condos available for sale did rise 2.3% month-over-month to 4,620, that gain is far below the historical average gain of 10.4% between March and April, nowhere close to the off-the-chart 44% gain in inventory ...
