KANSAS CITY — Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso are committed to the Mets, even if the Mets aren’t committed to winning next season.Comments by right-hander Max Scherzer about his talk with Billy Eppler this weekend were published in The Athletic on Tuesday hours ahead of the 6 p.m. ET trade deadline. Scherzer told MLB insider Ken Rosenthal that the Mets informed him of their plans to reset in 2024 before trading him to the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.Eppler, according to Scherzer, called 2024 a “transitory year.”He also told Lindor the same. The shortstop said he still believes in the vision of the team, even if that vision doesn’t include a title next season.“It’s a repositioning of players and assets in the organization and trying to build a sustainable system,” Lindor said Tuesday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium ahead of the Mets series against the Kansas City Royals. “They’re trying to put forward a farm system that i...‘Big-time breathing room’: Orioles pile on Blue Jays, 13-3, claim season series for first time since 2017

An estimated $1.1 billion Mega Millions jackpot will be up for grabs Tuesday night, giving lottery players a chance to snap an unlucky streak that has stretched on for months. The numbers drawn were 8, 24, 30, 45 ,61, and the yellow ball: 12. No one has won the Mega Millions jackpot since April 18, allowing it to roll over again and again until it reached its status as the sixth-largest in U.S. history. Tuesday night’s drawing will be the 30th since someone last won the jackpot. The drought is due to a combination of poor luck and terrible odds, as the chance of winning the Mega Millions jackpot is 1 in 302.6 million. The odds of winning smaller prizes, ranging from $1 million to $2, are significantly better. The $1.1 billion jackpot is for a sole winner who chooses to collect through an annuity, with annual payments over 30 years. A sole winner who opts for a lump sum payment would receive an estimated $550.2 million.Winners also would be subject to federal taxes, and many state...Pope Francis will be in Portugal for 5 days.
